Parallax scrolling

Parallax scrolling is one of the hottest trends that took the world of web design by storm in 2013. And like million others, I fell irrevocably in love with this stunning technique. But truth be told, parallax scrolling is not something which suddenly cropped up from the blue. It was a widely used technique in the arcade games of the 1980s, like the popular Mario franchise. I’m sure you can recollect how awesome the 3D background read: the clouds, the hills, and the mushrooms looked in the game. In realty, however, the game developers made the background move at a slower rate than the foreground, thus creating a 3D effect when players made Mario moved forward. This is the parallax scrolling technique in action, and designers follow the same rule when it comes to modern websites.

I’ve been seeing so many amazing parallax scrolling websites off late, it has become real hard to pick a handful of best examples. And thinking about choosing them, I’ve come up with 3 categories where I can place my top 3 parallax inspirations accordingly. Let’s have a look:

#1.Parallax for the Serious Professionals

Specless, the fast-growing digital marketing and mobile advertising agency, makes sure that their website is fun, yet maintains a strict professional look. Specializing in responsive banner ads, their website has a minimalistic attitude – with basic color combinations and very simple elements. The idea is to keep the UX smooth and easy. The parallax technique keeps things trendy, but doesn’t diminish their serious work ethics.

#2.Parallax for the Creative Souls

The first words which came to my mind when I took a look at the website of Boy-Coy is “Hardcore Creativity”. It is a creative design studio, and their website sends out the message loud and clear. The spunky red and black color combo in the homepage, with the innovative use of social media icons gives out an out-of-the-box vibe. The website itself is not too long, the information is kept short and precise, and every element used evokes a very feel-good emotion.

#3. Parallax for the Storytellers

Peugeot, the legendary car manufacturing company from France, has gone a step further to introduce us with its latest HYbrid4 Technology. In a specially designed website to advertise the Peugeot HYbrid4 Technology, the company has brought forward an intriguing story in the form of a graphics novel where the protagonist needs to switch between 4 different travel modes to complete her mission. What’s the catch here? These 4 modes are the same ones HYbrid4 has come up with.
